The jade roller has been part of Chinese skincare for centuries, mostly because it asks so little. Cool stone, rolled outward and upward. That's the whole practice.

Use it in the morning to wake the skin and take down puffiness, or at night to press your oil in properly and put the day away. The larger stone covers cheeks and forehead; the smaller end handles the under-eye.

1. Start with clean skin and a few drops of facial oil.

2. Roll from the centre of the face outward — cheeks to ears, brow to hairline, chin along the jaw. Light pressure; the stone does the work.

3. Use the small end gently under the eyes, inner corner to temple.
